Bio
Born in 1971, from Rising Sun, MD, earning a BA from Washington & Lee University in 1993. Crothers was initially self-taught, learning the basics from summer community college classes during high school, freelancing in college, developing his signature photojournalistic style early on. As a live shooter and documentarian, he was lucky enough to be able to cultivate relationships with then grassroots acts Phish and Dave Matthews Band, maintaining relationships that continue to the present day.
He made the move to NYC in 1995, and with the help of a few lucky breaks, was fortunate enough to publish a 3 yr. personal project about fraternity hazing in the NY Times Sunday Magazine, as well as getting hired by MTV to travel the world with Dennis Rodman, documenting his then-massive celebrity for one of TV's first reality-based series.
Building on this success, Taylor moved on to shoot countless editorial jobs for top music publications, as well as winning packaging and publicity assignments from major and indie record labels. Adept at building direct artist relationships, he learned how to balance access with discretion, creating unflinching, honest images that tell a story while still leaving the viewer wanting to know more.
In a fickle and dwindling entertainment photography market, Crothers continues to find himself in demand. He has earned a reputation as a go-to live shooter, counted on to deliver the goods by magazines, record labels, and premier American music festivals. In addition to his music and reportage work, Crothers has been expanding his skill set to include a substantial foray into architectural photography, shooting aerials, as well as a number of personal fine art projects.
