Bio

Step into a world of where thunderous bass, infectious break beats, and stunning visual effects, transport you into a mood of sonic devotion. With his unique lyrical style, MC Yogi translates the wisdom of the ancient yoga tradition for a whole new generation of modern mystics and urban yogis. With a generous dose of hip hop, reggae, dancehall and dub sounds, the result is a euphoric experience that will rock your body, melt your mind, and uplift your spirits.

MC Yogi grew up in the hip hop generation, free-styling at parties, painting graffiti and listening to the classic sounds of Run DMC and the Beastie Boys. He spent troubled teenage years at a group home for at risk youth until age 18. Then he discovered yoga, which turned his life around and in his early twenties he became a teacher and opened his own studio. Eventually, he would bring together the two main influences in his life and give birth to a new genre of music: Yoga Hip Hop.

The popularity of MC Yogi's sound catapulted him to the top of the itunes world music charts. His debut album Elephant Power quickly became one of the top selling albums in the genre holding it's position in the top twenty for over three years. The success of his first release carried MC Yogi across the globe - from Hong Kong to Mexico and all points in between - lighting up the stage at music festivals, night clubs, yoga conferences and even art museums, including the Smithsonian in Washington D.C.

After releasing a viral video in support of Barack Obama in 2008, he was commisioned by Starbucks to co-create an anthem and video for their service initiative "Are You In?". The video received over a million views on youtube and was shown during the first commercial break of Obama’s inauguration, which was the largest television viewing audience in history. The video was also later aired during the super bowl.

Pilgrimage, Yogi’s much anticipated sophomore release, takes a revolutionary leap forward toward a fuller sound working with master musicians spanning three continents. As part of their journey, Yogi and his co-producer, Robin Livingston, traveled to the heart of South India.

“We went to the source, the root because we felt like being in India is like going to the Mother, The birthplace of yoga. The new record is a journey in sound, it’s a pilgrimage. It’s fresh water from an ancient well. When you listen it takes you on a journey inward into the Self.  We wanted to create that same feeling of bliss that you get in a yoga class on the dance floor.”
